Dress Your Face: Luxe Pirate Makeup

In this week’s Dress Your Face, we’ve taken to the seven seas to create this piratically inspired makeup look.

Whether you’re planning your Halloween costume or simply enjoy having your timbers shivered, this tutorial will turn you into the pirate queen you were always meant to be!

{face}

If you want to walk the plank like you’re walking the runway, you’ll need to get yourself a good foundation. To create a natural looking base we used Smashbox Liquid Halo foundation. This moisturising foundation leaves a semi-sheer, luminous finish that you can easily build up. Add a light swirl of Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil bronzer to the outer corners of your forehead, your temples and below your cheek bones.

Next, brighten under your eyes by blending in MAC Mineralize Concealer in a slightly lighter colour to your skin tone. Since this look includes a bold eye and lip, we decided to skip a heavy contour and simply use a flush of blush to define the cheekbones. We love the warm, tropical shade of Benefit CORALista blush.

Now for the fun part!

Take a look at our model’s eye! See those last two lashes on her outer corner? They’re not actually lashes! Drawing illusion lashes is a great way to avoid the hassle of wearing false lashes. Simply take your Hourglass Calligraphy liquid eyeliner and use the felt tipped liner to draw a winged cat-eye. Then, with extra precision, add as many extra flicks at the end as you like!

Next, grab your NARS Black Moon eyeliner pencil and start colouring in your eyelids until they are completely black. To get that smoked-out look, apply a layer of Urban Decay Naked2 eye palette in the colour ‘blackout’ on top of your eyeliner-covered base before blending it toward the outer corner of your eye. Apply the colour ‘foxy’ in the inner corner of your eye and blend outwards to add dimension.

If you have smaller eyes, you may want to counteract the heavy shadowing with a slick of Tarte inner rim brightener in your lower waterline. Finally, grab a highly pigmented pink eyeliner and line your lower lashline (we love Ardency Inn Smooth Ride Supercharged eyeliner in hot pink). Fan out your lashes with a swipe of Sephora Outrageous Volume mascara.

{brows}

We used Anastasia Beverley Hills Perfect Brow Pencil to create a set of bold brows. The soft consistency of this pencil gives a powdery finish.

{lips}

Line your lips with Rimmel London Lasting Finish 1000 Kisses lip liner in ‘Indian Pink’. Roughly fill in the rest of your lips with this liner before applying a layer of NYX matte lipstick in ‘Merlot’. You’ll end up with a deeply pigmented, matte lipstick that will last through even the most tumultuous of sea voyages.

{accessories}

What good are a pirate’s riches if she can’t wear them? Our model wears a jewelled eyepatch we custom designed as well as the Galactic Princess Choker available via the Sneakypeek online store. We also had fun creating the wave-inspired jewel chin detailing using stick-on craft rhinestones.

And there you go, me hearties! X marks the (beauty) spot!
